The European Standard for Protective Gloves, EN 388, was updated on November 4, 2016 and is now in the process of being ratified by each member country.
Regardless of allotted adjustment period, many leading manufacturers will immediately start using revised EN 388 markings on gloves.
General-purpose protective gloves account for the largest market share of all personal protective equipment (PPE) sold and protect wearers from a wide range of hazards.
To help companies with the selection of appropriate gloves, several European safety standards – including EN 388:2016 – have been developed, enabling levels of protection against different risks to be defined

Glove Certification – What it means?
The EN388 standard relates to protection levels specifically for safety gloves. This test assess the levels for abrasion, blade cuts, tears and punctures.
Abrasion resistance:
This tests how many revolutions it takes to create a hole, with an abrasive material under a stipulated pressure. Rated from (1-4), 4 being the most resistant.
Blade cut resistance:
This tests the number of cycles for a blade, running at a constant speed to cut through the material. Rated from (1-4), 4 being the most resistant.
Tear resistance:
This tests the amount of force (n) required to tear the glove. Rated from (1-4), 4 being the most resistant
Puncture resistance:
This tests the amount of pressure required to puncture material with a standard size point. Rated from (1-4), 4 being the most resistant
